Magaly Varela is a Senior Associate of the Competition/Antitrust team. Her practice is focused on regulation and free competition, with extensive experience in merger control and antitrust; as well as unfair competition, consumer protection, bureaucratic barriers control, intellectual property, administrative law and arbitration.

Magaly is a lawyer graduated magna cum laude from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. She holds an International Diploma in Administrative Law from Universidad ESAN – Graduate School of Business, and a Diploma in Regulation from London School of Economics and Political Sciences.

Prior to joining the firm, she was the Legal Coordinator for the first Merger Control Division of the Peruvian Competition Authority (INDECOPI) (2021 – 2023), where she participated in the drafting of the Regulation for the Merger Control Law and the Merger Control Guidelines. Furthermore, she has been an Associate of the Regulation and Competition area of Miranda & Amado (2016 – 2021) and an Associate of the Regulation and Competition area and the Arbitration area of Bullard Falla Ezcurra + (2014 – 2016).

She is a former associate professor of the Legal Skills course, the Commercial Law seminar and the Arbitration seminar at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú; the Law and Economics course at Universidad del Pacifico; and the Free Competition course at Universidad de Piura and the Graduate School of Universidad de Lima.

Magaly is the co-founder of the Association Lideranda, member of the Lima Bar Association and was part of the Directive Board of the Ius Et Veritas Law Review.

She is a native Spanish speaker and is fluent in English.
